Azedine Medhkour, MD
Neurosurgeon
Dr. Azedine Medhkour joins Cornerstone Orthopedic Institute, bringing over 40 years of medical experience. A graduate of the Institute of Medical Sciences of Algiers, his neurosurgery training began in Paris at La Pitie-Salpetriere and Sainte-Anne Hospital. He continued his neurosurgical training at New York University Medical Center and research training at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School. Dr. Medhkour spent two years performing basic science research on brain tumors at Massachusetts General, followed by a year of clinical research at the Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York. After practicing neurosurgery for three years in Algeria, Dr. Medhkour returned to the U.S. and completed his neurosurgical residency at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock. He joins Cornerstone Orthopedic Institute after serving most recently as chief of the Division of Neurosurgery at the University of Toledo Medical Center in Ohio. Dr. Medhkour provides surgical treatments for a range of conditions affecting the nervous system, such as epilepsy and Parkinson’s disease. His sub-specialty surgeries include brain aneurysm and arterio-venous malformation, brain tumors, cervical and lumbar disc surgeries, traumatic brain management, normal pressure hydrocephalus, hydrocephalus chiari malformation, and spinal cord tumors.
